About Nadia Halim

I am a freelance science writer based in Basel, Switzerland. My curiosity about living things and science in general led me to a career in organic chemistry. After several years of working in pharmaceutical research and development, I realized I could combine my love of writing with science.
Today, I have 10 years experience writing about science for various organizations and publications, including pharmaceutical companies, The Scientist, American Chemical Society, and the Alzheimer Research Forum.
The winding path that led me to science writing, started with a Bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana in 1990. Then I went on to receive a Master’s degree in organic chemistry from Purdue University, Indianapolis, Indiana in 1993.
A five and a half year stint in the pharmaceutical industry followed. I gained valuable experience from my time in the lab synthesizing compounds to target diseases ranging from inflammation to AIDS. While I enjoyed doing research, I knew I wanted to learn more. I wanted to explore the wider world of health, science, and technology and communicate science rather than focus on one subject.
Since my transition to science writing, I have written about a broad range of topics including genetics, chemistry, health, medicine, and biotechnology. Always looking for a new frontier to discover, I welcome freelance projects in all science disciplines.
